By now, you know where this will take you:

3/10/8 19:00-21:00

Thanks for the requests.  I always forget that Floyd tune——forget that it’s Floyd, forget its name, forget the album.  Requests that give me answers to questions I forgot that I have are very good, indeed.  The Sting request primed the waves for the rotation cut that was due, and then a mirror image request, Chicago (requested from way back when), provided a convenient bridge between rotation cuts, whilst reminding me of life back when my head was only, like, maybe a foot above the arm of the sofa, which was a trip of a flashback.

Oh!  And yeah, fucking Neil Young.  Sample and Hold, bitches.

Actually, I was listening to KALX the other night in the library while I was writing and Duncan played it.  So if there’s a wave of “Sample and Hold” that sweeps the nation, I got it from Duncan; I have no idea what prompted him to play it.

Man.  Two hours is so short.  I know, by now, it’s been what… at least 4 weeks, right?  So I should prolly be adjusted to the 2 hour deal, but.
I’m still not used to it.
It’s like I arrive, play 6 tunes, and bam! time to hand it over to the 9pm dj.

The astrological “weather” report:

OK.  I know.  It was a disorganized bit of gobble-di-guk tonight.  And yes.  Yes, I am.
I *am* going to opt for the “Mercury retrograde” excuse.  It really *is* at it’s peak tonight, so it’s legit, if ever it was.  …same as it ever was?

Anyways, here’s where things were, more or less at 20:00 EDT for 3 October, 2008:

Sun: 11° Libra
Moon: 4° 23′ Sagittarius
Mercury: retrograde, as we already know, at 17° Libra, and if you’re wondering how far back it’s gonna go before it starts moving forward again, it resumes direct motion on October 15, when it is at 7°34 Libra, and it stays in Libra during the entire retrograde period.
Venus: 12° Scorpio
Mars: 29° Libra
Jupiter: 13° Capricorn
Saturn: 15° Virgo
Uranus: 19° Pisces, like Mercury, also retrograde, but since the end of June
Neptune: 21° Aquarius and it’s retrograde, too, since the end of May, and finally,
Pluto: 28°39′ Sagittarius

And I didn’t say everything that follows, but I meant to.
Well, maybe not all of what follows, but this is more what I intended than what I actually delivered.  I didn’t have time to write it up, and as I tried to wing it, I stumbled all over the marbles our retrograde Mercury has spread for the unprepared.  Excuses, excuses.  Here’s the prevailing stuff:

Applying Sun Square Jupiter Monday, October 6, 2008 12:51
This is a time for moral and legal debate, a time when legal battles and important court cases may make news and leaders may struggle with approval issues. Negatively, this transit inclines toward over-growth, distortions of the truth, and indulgence.

Applying Sun Conjunction Mercury Monday, October 6 16:52
This contact indicates news or an announcement of some importance from leaders is imminent. It’s a time of decision-making based on rules and regulations. Transportation related issues are active now and may require special attention.

After the sun’s conjunction with Mercury passes Monday afternoon, there should be a bit of a shift in how the retrograde Mercury affects us, taking things more towards the positive.  Or the benign.  Or at the very least, innocuity. Things are still bound to misfire in the Mercurian realms of communication and travel (and sibling relationships, too!), but they should be less troublesome after Monday because the next aspect…

Applying Sun Trine Neptune Tuesday, October 14 09:18
A vision of the future is possible now. This is a time for spiritual reflection, voluntary actions, artistic creativity, and leadership with vision.

…adds vision that can adjust itself to the haze of the retrograde.

Now, specifically for tonight, Friday, October 3 (this is the stuff I didn’t communicate that well during the show):

Applying Moon Sextile Sun Saturday, October 4, 2008 10:50
This is a time of harmony, balance, and opportunity. It’s a good time for decision making.

My spin on tonight is, this is the night for fun. We’ve got the moon in the extraverted, party sign of Sagittarius, and overnight, till almost 11am, it’s applying a sextile to the sun in the friendly and social sign of Libra. If you’re trying to decide tonight or tomorrow night to go out to romp and play, astrological weather says “Tonight!”

After the moon breaks with the sextile to the sun, it makes a square with Saturn in Virgo, so we’re likely to find ourselves somehow in a conflict with the traditional, conservative vs. the hedonistic prodigal. Not necessarily involving anyone else. It could be an internal conflict.

There’s a very brief respite early Saturday evening, between 18:50 and 19:44, but then the moon spends the rest of Saturday night, into 3am Sunday, making a square to Uranus, which really can be a most uncomfortable pain in the ass:

Applying Moon Square Uranus Sunday, October 5, 2008 03:09
This transit brings temporary upsets in the flow of events. Moods may be unstable and changeable now. Expect the unusual and the unexpected. Social conditions may be awkward and inconvenient.

Issues that may arise connected to this aspect will ultimately play out to be harmless, but it may be Thursday before the triviality of it all comes to fore.

The moon doesn’t turn void until Sunday 21:08 (9pm); it moves into Capricorn 23:48 (11:48pm), so it’s less than 3 hours long, but the last aspect before the void Sunday night is a conjunction with Pluto, and the sign it enters, Capricorn, is a sign of gravity, so the levity for the weekend is definitely Friday night into Saturday morning.

The other lunar voids for this week:

Tuesday, October 7 15:37 (3:37) — Wednesday, October 8 12:03 (noon) it enters Aquarius
! that’s 20.5 hours of void !

Friday, October 10 19:13 (7:13) — 21:23 (9:23) it enters Pisces
another of those short little voids, slightly more than 2 hours

Meanwhile, the rest of the planets bring these things to the table:

Applying Mercury Square Jupiter Monday, October 6, 2008 19:45
…but due to the retrograde motion, this aspect persists till its final return:  Sunday, October 26, 2008 16:05

Important communications on matters of concern for many are at issue now. Moral, philosophical, or religious issues may be raised and debated. International meetings make news.

Venus offers some constructive opportunities to help redirect retrograde events:
Applying Venus Sextile Jupiter Sunday, October 5, 2008 08:22
Celebrations, meetings and weddings are successful. Confidence and feelings of prosperity move events along now.

Applying Venus Trine Uranus Friday, October 10, 2008 01:47
Unusual events and “firsts” occur under this interesting transit.  Protests could begin or end abruptly, and group activities may appear to be erratic and unstable, but may prove productive.

Mars enters Scorpio about a half hour after midnight tonight (i.e., 12:33 Saturday morning), and it also has some positive energy to contribute to the mix, pretty much for the rest of this month:

Applying Mars Sextile Jupiter Monday, October 27, 2008 16:29
Cooperative efforts progress smoothly. Enthusiasm boosts business and career interests. Supervisors are helpful.

And as I said last week, these are long-term conditions; you can kinda think of them in terms of “summer is hot,” but you know how some days may be rainy, and others may be sunny, and of course some are hotter than others…

Applying Jupiter Sextile Uranus Thursday, November 13, 2008 01:39
This is a time when mostly positive developments, changes, and innovations are happening in many fields, including religion, law, and transportation.

Applying Saturn Opposite Uranus Tuesday, November 4, 2008 09:35
This transit emphasizes inequalities in society, the conflicts between the “haves” and the “have-nots.” This may also be a time of severe socio-economic stress and even financial recession. Changes of rule and authority in many fields leave people feeling unstable and insecure. It is a time of frustration, accidents, rigid resistance to change, and attacks on authorities.

This Saturn/Uranus aspect has been applying since August 2007, although there was a period in May when Saturn came within a few minutes of a trine with Pluto, that somewhat deflected or delayed the energy of the opposition.  Through the next year, however, nothing comes close enough to interrupt it, so we’ve arrived at the point of no return.

Saturn rules investments and career, and also things like death from old age, endings and closures.
In Virgo, it’s more analytical and careful than Scrooge-like. (The unenlightened Scrooge represents negative qualities of Capricorn and Saturn.)

Uranus represents revolution, the unconventional, disruption, and upheaval.
In Pisces, Uranus can be creative and selflessly humanitarian.

Saturn making this opposition to Uranus is no doubt the key player in the current economic shakedown. Saturn finally applies the opposition to Uranus on… Election day!

…but because of retrograde motion between both Saturn and Uranus, it continues to affect us until July 27, 2010.

The November 4 opposition is the first in a series of five:
November 4 is the first pass, at 18°, with Saturn in Virgo, Uranus in Pisces.
It takes place again on
February 5 (@ 20°),
September 15, 2009 (@ 24°), and
April 27, 2010 (@ 28°), which are all Virgo/Pisces oppositions.
The last one, on July 27, 2010, Saturn and Uranus have moved into the next sign: 0° Libra/0° Aries.

This is a rather rare aspect, and the last two times it’s taken place, each time it has made five passes before it’s completed.
The last time it took place was between April 1, 1965 and January 7, 1967. At that time, *Saturn* was in Pisces, and Uranus was in Virgo, the mirror image of this one.
Before then, we have to go back to October 1, 1918 – June 6, 1920. It began with Saturn in Leo/Uranus in Aquarius, but the 3rd-5th passes between August 15, 1919 and June 6, 1920, Saturn was in Virgo, Uranus was in Pisces, like now (though at different degrees).
